Self-directed learning
Self-directed learning is an important part of university-level study. It involves taking responsibility for your own learning, identifying your own learning goals and strategies, finding your own study resources and engaging in independent study – this refers to the time you spend working outside of lecture and seminar hours, including background reading, essay writing, preparation for seminars and tutorials, and so on. The Learning Development team offers practical guidance that will contribute to your academic success at Queen Mary. The Advice and Counselling Service also has some great advice on the transition to academic life in the UK.
You can hear from our students about the transition to university in this short film.
Study support services
There are a number of study support services at Queen Mary to help you study well at university, including support from Learning Development, the Peer Assisted Study Support (PASS) scheme and the Language Centre's in-sessional modules to help you maximise your academic performance. |
