Queen Mary University of London

 Getting started

Dear ${Contacts.First Name}

Welcome to our second newsletter focusing on money and support. In case you missed it:

 Funding

Tuition fees

You can find the requirements for paying your tuition fees here, as well as information on special arrangements for paying your tuition fees to Queen Mary if you have applied for a postgraduate loan through Student Finance England.

Bursaries and extra funding

We have a significant package of bursaries and scholarships
available to eligible students to ensure access for all and to reward excellence. The Financial Assistance Fund may also be available to you if you are facing financial hardship during your studies, depending on your circumstances.

Managing your money

Our Advice and Counselling Service provides useful advice for budget planning, managing your money, and money saving tips at university. You can also check out the Money Matters videos on Student Finance and financial hardship.

Queen Mary videos are also available to view through Youku.
Deals and discounts

As a Queen Mary student, you can take advantage of deals and discounts both on and off campus, including IT equipment and software, travel, shopping, and food and drink.

 Working and careers

Finding work experience and part-time work

You can use the Careers and Enterprise Service to find work experience opportunities, as well as part-time work and internships. They can also support you with job applications, interview training and starting your own business. It's never too early (or too late) to start working to improve your prospects!

Student support

Queen Mary support services are here to help you live well at university, including support for when you are experiencing difficulties in your personal life and finances, and help for students with disabilities, specific learning difficulties and mental health issues.

Protecting your health

You should make sure to register with a doctor as soon as you arrive. We advise you to get immunised against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) before arriving at Queen Mary. This is a free service in the UK. You should also get immunised against meningitis (MenACWY); the service is free in the UK to anyone aged 25 and under.

 The next few weeks

From Saturday 1 September, our 'Countdown to Welcome Week' online and on social media provides tips and advice to help you prepare for university – #QMULwelcome!
