Law, English and Drama ranked top 35 in QS Top Universities rankings
Three subjects from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences have been ranked in the top 35 in the world, according to the 2018 QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) Top Universities Study.

Queen Mary student takes her research to Parliament
Madeleine Hart, a PhD student from the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, was shortlisted to present her research to the Houses of Parliament as part of STEM for Britain, a competition involving approximately 180 early stage or early career researchers.

Widening Participation visits the Votes for Women exhibition
To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Widening Participation team invited a group of female students and graduates to visit the Votes for Women exhibition at the Museum of London, and discuss what it is like to be women in higher education today.

Queen Mary invests in cutting-edge artificial intelligence computers
Two supercomputers have been installed at Queen Mary to support research into deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI), furthering research into areas including feature tracking through video analysis, the modelling of social networks, predictive models for music and analysis of particle interaction from the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.

Careers & Enterprise business funding deadlines

Do you have a great idea but need a bit of funding to get it up and running? Are you already working on a business venture but need help getting it to the next stage? Apply for funding to take your project to the next level. Careers & Enterprise have 'Try It' (up to £500), 'Grow It' (up to £5,000) and 'Build It' (up to £10,000) funding awards available for interesting projects at any stage of maturity to help you move to the next stage of development. The LGBT+ Society was established to provide a community of representation and support for all LGBT+ students and friends at Queen Mary. The society increases visibility of LGBT+ students and raises awareness of the issues faced by the community. Queen Mary's Chaplaincy team is available as a pastoral resource for the care of students, staff and their families, of any faith or none, as they confront death and the loss of a loved one. They can help organise memorial services, offer practical advice or just provide a friendly ear. Find out more.

Money Matters – what to do if you are running out of money at the end of term

If you are waiting for your next instalment of Student Finance in April, you may be running out of money as the end of term approaches. The Advice and Counselling Service provides three possible options to improve your finances.

Expeditions Fund 2017/18

Are you planning a trip during the summer vacation? Queen Mary’s Expeditions Fund is open for applications from continuing undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to apply for a grant towards travel in summer 2018. You can see reports from previous summers and more details online. The closing date for applications is Friday 27 April. 

Having trouble studying? Stressed about exams?


The Advice and Counselling Service has organised several workshops over the next couple of months for students who need extra support or advice around studying and managing exam stress. The workshops are free to attend and there’s no need to book in advance. Check them out now.

Upgrade to university email login page

During the Easter break, IT Services is planning to upgrade the login page for students logging into their university email account (Office 365). The functionality and the login process will remain the same, but the design of the login page will change significantly. More information is available online.

Take part in a survey looking at the effect of dietary nitrate on skin inflammation

Charlotte Whitear, a student from the William Harvey Research Institute, is looking for male volunteers, aged 18-45, who are non-smokers and on no medications, to take part in an ethically approved study looking at the effect of dietary nitrate (beetroot juice) on skin inflammation. Life Sciences Image Awards 2018 deadline for submissions

There’s still time to submit images under the themes of health and wellbeing, health and technology, and beauty in medicine for the Life Sciences Image Awards 2018 before the deadline of Thursday 29 March. Full details are available on the Life Sciences Initiative website.
