Welcome to our second newsletter. This edition focuses on money, support and opportunities available to you. If you missed our first email on welcoming you to the QMUL community and what to do before you arrive, then you can access it here. Keep an eye out for our third pre-arrival email next week with details on the learning environment and studying at Queen Mary.

Remember to take a look at our before you arrive checklist on the new students' site to help you plan your arrival at Queen Mary.

 Funding

Tuition fees

You will receive an invoice for tuition fees once you have pre-enrolled. If you have applied for a tuition fee loan through the Student Loans Company (Student Finance), this will automatically be paid to Queen Mary once enrolment has been confirmed. If you're not applying through student finance, a guide for how to pay tuition fees is available here.

Bursaries and extra funding

We have a significant package of bursaries and scholarships available to eligible students to ensure access for all and reward excellence. The Financial Assistance Fund is also available to you if you are facing financial hardship during your studies.

Health

There is a free Student Health Service available on campus. If you will be living in QMUL accommodation at Mile End or Whitechapel, or living in the borough of Tower Hamlets (E1, E2, E3 and E14), you are encouraged to register. If you are living in Dawson Hall at the Charterhouse Square campus or outside Tower Hamlets and are eligible for free NHS treatment, you must register with a doctor close to where you live. A list of local doctors is available here.

We also advise that you get immunised against meningitis before arriving at QMUL, as young adults are at higher risk from the disease.

 IT services and support

You should receive an email in the coming weeks with details of your QMUL account details. IT Services will be on-hand to help you get set up when you arrive at Queen Mary.

Stay cyber aware

The start of the academic year is a time when internet fraudsters often target students in phishing attacks. Please remain vigilant and take extra care when opening emails from unknown sources or from a known source but with suspicious content. More information is available here.
